Another essay on…!

Hi! Today I will be writing about, as my teacher put it, The Morality of Wealth. Speaking of teachers, I would like to say thank you to my teacher, Mr. Terrell, and that most of what I am saying is by him. Also, the format of this post is as follows: question, short answer, then a long answer(not terribly long).

Also, here are the three questions we will be talking about today.

  • Is it immoral to be wealthy?
  • Is it  unjust that some people have more wealth than others?
  • What moral limits are there on HOW a person can gain wealth?

One more thing before we start, I have answered these questions based on my belief of the morality of wealth, and I am not trying to change your belief/opinion on this post.

Now, on with the post!

First question is: Is it immoral to be wealthy?

Short Answer: In my opinion, no I do not think it is.

Long Answer: There are times when having to much wealth/money/expensive things can lead to problems, such as Charles Dickens’s book, A Christmas Carol, Ebenezer Scrooge has accumulated so much wealth, but, as it says in the story he didn’t want to offer any money to the charities that helped the poor and needy. In other instances though, some people are wealthy and will share money, and will give to charity. There are so many good things that you can do when wealthy, but you can also do a great deal of bad/evil.

Second question is: Is it unjust that some people have more wealth than others?

Short Answer: In my opinion, no, not to me.

Long Answer: I do not think so. I think that it is perfectly fine that some people have more wealth than others because wealth(money) doesn’t grow on trees. What I mean by that is some people work hard to earn a daily or monthly income, but, some people don’t want to do the work for the money they can earn and just wait for a $100,000 gift card to fall from the sky(metaphorically speaking) or given to them, or they say ‘I’ll do it later.’

The third and final question: What moral limits are there on HOW a person can gain wealth?

Short Answer: See Long Answer for answers.

Long Answer: There are so many ways and limits to how someone can gain wealth, but for me there is one more way I can gain wealth(money) until I say ‘This is where I stop.’ And that is asking. It is alright, I think to ask for money(in this case)from family or friends every once in a great long while, and if you pay them back. From then on, I don’t do any of the bad stuff like:

  • Stealing
  • Somebody giving themself more money than everybody else at the end of a work day
  • Not paying all the expenses so that they could have more money left over
  • Paying just the bare minimum of expenses

Now, for some really dramatic limits.

  • Killing
  • Ransom
  • Blackmail
  • And a bunch of others that I don’t want to mention

Well, I hope you found this post informative! Also I am trying to start a little trend, and going to put a joke at the end of my post, we also ended on a very not-so-happy note.

Boy says to Dad: This was my first time camping.

Boy says to Dad: It was in-tents (intense) HAHAHA!
